Saturday races were to start at 11:30 but we sailed around a bit while race committee tried to set up the course. The winds were light and shifty. We got a 4 leg race off but they shortened it to 3 legs. I went to the left which was not too good and got 16th. After more course adjusting, they got race 2 off, another 4 “legger.” The course was altered at the windward mark and at the leeward mark and shortened at the third mark. I followed a local sailor and came in 3rd! They had us go in to wait ashore for the wind to come in. Some dolphins escorted us in which made it fun. We hit the pool to cool down and at 2:45 they called the races for the day. Of course by 3:15 the sea breeze was coming in nicely. Oh well, we got to hit the bar early. There was a lovely dinner at 6 and a poolside movie at dusk but Charlie and I headed back to our friends house for a glass of wine, dip in the pool and of course Charlie went fishing. It was nice to relax and refresh. Overall I was 10th for the day. Happy sailing, Annie Lancaster
We got to Tampa around 11 am. We got the boat on the dolly ready to go and went to get some lunch. The practice races started at 2. The weather was pleasant with scattered clouds and shifty winds. I was second in the first race but the first lady did not finish. I asked her why and she said it was bad luck. I was third from the last the second race. Maybe she was right. Charlie and I had a relaxing evening at a friend’s house in St.-Pete. We are off to the races this morning. Skies are clear, wind said to be light. We’ll see how it goes.–Annie Lancaster
Go Girl! Just show them your luck.
After the AYC-Wednesday Night Championship and taking the 1st Woman trophy; here is the first travel report from Annie and Charlie Lancaster on their way to the 2013 Sunfish Women’s North American Championship.
“We left at 5 am Thursday. We were hoping to miss the Houston traffic but we had an hour slow down around Houston. Charlie took the first leg to Beaumont. I drove thru LA and we stopped in Gulfport for gas and a late lunch. We made it to Tallahassee for the night.
We got on the road this morning at 7:30 Florida time and we are making our way to Tampa hopefully for the practice race. Weather is sunny but I believe the wind is light. Sugar Blue (Annie’s sunfish) seems to be traveling well and the best boat boy is driving. All is well. —Annie”
